Challenge 11
Challenge purpose: High Performance Lightweight Materials for AeroStructures
About the challenge
High-performance lightweight materials can be used in substitution of individual metal parts, traditionally manufactured, in order to achieve weight and cost reductions as well as improved durability. They could be topologically optimized 3D printed metal parts. The design of these components needs to guarantee interchangeability with traditional metallic parts. Scouting and cooperation with industrial partners in this domain is an opportunity for the challenge provider.
Main section of application:
Aueronautics
Main cross-cutting topics:
Manufacturing & assembly
Material supply & development
Characterization & modelling
Scope of the challenge
In the context of advanced and lightweight materials, the scope is the innovative concept & the development of materials & structures improving the performance and compliance against the airframe requirements. The challenge provider is interested in cooperation with suppliers with expertise both in composite materials & 3D printing metallic technology.
Challenge objectives
Lattice 3D printed metallic aerostructures, topologically optimized;
Cooperation finalised to technology partnership, sample development.
